Eastern Regional Police Commander Engages SLAJ, Bloggers and Radio Owners in Kenema

The newly transferred Eastern Regional Commander, Mr. Joe Kamanda-Bongay, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), has held a familiarisation meeting with key media stakeholders in Kenema as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Sierra Leone Police and the press.


The engagement brought together representatives from the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), the Reporters Union, the Bloggers Union, and radio station owners across the Eastern Region.


Speaking at his office at the Kenema Police Station, ACP Kamanda-Bongay emphasized the critical role of the media in promoting peace, security, and national development. He called for enhanced cooperation, responsible journalism, and consistent information sharing between the police and media practitioners.


He noted that a strong and productive relationship between the Sierra Leone Police and the media remains essential in building public trust and improving transparency in security operations.


Responding on behalf of media stakeholders, Mr. Ahmed G. Kallon, General Station Manager for the Eastern Region and Commissioner of the Access to Information Commission, commended the initiative. He reaffirmed the commitment of media institutions to work closely with the police in promoting peace, public safety, and community development.


Similar assurances were also given by the Regional Secretary of SLAJ, representatives of the Reporters Union, and the President of the Bloggers Union East, who all pledged continued collaboration with the police in advancing professionalism, accountability, and social progress.


The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both the police leadership and media stakeholders reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening trust, promoting peace, and supporting the well-being of communities across the Eastern Region.
