Late Drama as Wilberforce Strikers and Old Edwardians FC Share Spoils in 2-2 Thriller

Wilberforce Strikers and Old Edwardians FC produced a dramatic 2-2 draw on Wednesday, June 17, at the SLFA Academy, in a thrilling encounter decided by a late second-half surge that kept fans on edge until the final whistle.


Both sides adopted a cautious approach in the first half, with few clear-cut chances, resulting in a goalless 0-0 scoreline at the break.

The game came alive in the 63rd minute when Old Edwardians FC broke the deadlock through Baimba Sannoh, who calmly slotted home to give the visitors the lead.


Wilberforce Strikers responded almost immediately, with Randy M. George restoring parity through a composed finish. The forward then turned the game on its head in the 85th minute, scoring his second goal of the match with a clinical strike to put the Strikers ahead 2-1.


George’s brace takes his season tally to 13 goals, making him the league’s leading scorer with three matches remaining.


However, just when Wilberforce Strikers looked set to secure maximum points, Old Edwardians FC struck late drama of their own. Momoh I. Sankoh found the equaliser in the 89th minute with a well-taken finish to salvage a point for the visitors.


The result leaves Wilberforce Strikers in 10th place on 38 points, while Old Edwardians FC remain steady in 4th position with 49 points as the league season moves into its decisive final stretch.
