Minister Kabba Leads High-Level ECOWAS Delegation To Guinea-Bissau

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, on 27th June 2026, led a high-level ECOWAS ministerial delegation to Guinea-Bissau to advance regional democratic governance and political stability.
The delegation, including Senegal’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, conducted consultations with transitional authorities regarding the nation’s political trajectory.
This mission follows the December 2023 engagement led by President Julius Maada Bio, Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. Minister Kabba characterized the dialogue with Transitional President Major-General Horta Inta-A Na Man as productive, emphasizing the continued prioritization of Guinea-Bissau’s transition on the regional agenda.

The engagement secured a commitment to hold general elections on December 6, 2026, marking a pivotal step toward restoring constitutional order. Additionally, the transitional administration pledged to undergo a constitutional review—to be finalized via referendum—and implement electoral law reforms.
Minister Kabba identified these developments as critical milestones toward full democratic governance, noting that the established electoral roadmap demonstrates enhanced political will among national stakeholders.
On behalf of President Bio, Minister Kabba commended the transitional authorities for their cooperation in consolidating regional peace.
This mission reinforces Sierra Leone’s commitment to multilateralism and constitutional rule under President Bio’s ECOWAS chairmanship, maintaining Guinea-Bissau as a focal point of West African diplomatic efforts.
