Speaker Thomas to Issue Performance Report Cards for MPs

The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has announced a formal plan to collate and transmit personal performance assessments of Members of Parliament (MPs) to their respective political parties.

This initiative aims to provide a comprehensive "report card" on the effectiveness and efficiency of representatives during their tenure in the legislative house.

The Speaker’s assessment will be based on a rigorous set of criteria, including attendance, punctuality, general conduct, and overall assistance to legislative proceedings. 

Speaker Thomas emphasized that these records will remain publicly accessible upon request, serving as a transparent resource for political parties, opponents, and the electorate both during and after an MP’s term.

In addition to accountability, the program seeks to incentivize excellence. High-performing MPs who receive remarkable evaluations will be recommended for exclusive privileges and designated for national representation in international delegations. This system is intended to elevate the standard of legislative participation and national service.

The assessment sparked immediate positive discussion within the House. Hon. Abdul Kargbo, Leader of the Opposition, proposed the appointment of party-specific assessors to conduct independent evaluations. 

However, Speaker Thomas maintained his stance, asserting his commitment to overseeing the grading process personally to ensure a unified standard of assessment across all political divides.
