Crime: Theft Case Involving Nle60,000 Escalated to High Court

The case involving the theft of sixty-two thousand seven hundred ninety-eight Leones (₦62,798) has been escalated to the High Court, following accusations against three individuals for allegedly stealing hundreds of liters of oil from the LEOCEM CEMENT factory in Freetown. Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura determined that sufficient evidence exists to justify a trial in the higher court.

The defendants — Anthony Kamara, 20, a carpenter; Alusine Sesay, 25, a laborer; and Josephus Mansaray, 25, also a laborer — appeared at Pademba Road Court No. 8. They are charged with conspiracy and store breaking.

According to court records, the incident took place on May 27, 2025, at the LEOCEM CEMENT factory on Bett Street in Kanikay, Cline Town, Western Area. The men are alleged to have conspired with unidentified individuals to commit store breaking and larceny. On the same date and location, they reportedly broke into the LEOCEM CEMENT lubricant store with the intent to steal.

The stolen items allegedly include 208 liters of CLP Oil, 180 liters of EP2 Oil, and 202 liters of 15W40 oil, all valued at Nle62,798 and identified as the property of the LEOCEM CEMENT factory.

Upon the reading and explanation of the charges, the accused did not enter a plea. Detective Police Constable Lamin Dumbuya (ID: 14898), the prosecutor, presented five witnesses, providing both formal and factual testimonies, and submitted exhibits as evidence.

Magistrate Samura, after evaluating the evidence presented, concluded that the prosecution had established a sufficient basis for the case to proceed to the High Court.

Bail was denied for all three accused, and they have been remanded to the male correctional facility in Freetown pending their appearance in the High Court.
