Augustine Dassama, a 25-year-old mason, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for fraudulent conversion. The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Mamakoh Saio Kallon at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 5 on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
Dassama was arraigned on a single count charge of fraudulent conversion, to which he pleaded guilty.
According to police records, Dassama fraudulently converted to his own use various items entrusted to him by Jane Bewoh for safekeeping. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Leicester, Mountain Rural District, Western Area, Freetown. The items included an LG air conditioner, an indoor air conditioner, a 10,000-watt stabilizer, a money counting machine, and other assorted items with a total value of 65,325 Leones.
Before sentencing, Prosecutor Santigie Koroma informed the court that the accused had no prior criminal record.
The accused, who was not represented by legal counsel, pleaded with the court for leniency.
Following the plea in mitigation, Magistrate Kallon sentenced Dassama to 36 months imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
