ACC Issues Final Asset Declaration Warning to Public Officers

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has issued a final directive to public officers in Sierra Leone, mandating the declaration of income, assets, and liabilities by July 20, 2026. Non-compliance will trigger immediate administrative sanctions under the Anti-Corruption Act.

In a formal notice dated June 29, 2026, the Commission confirmed that no extensions will be granted beyond the statutory deadline. All submissions must be processed via the official online Asset Declaration Portal.

Pursuant to Section 119(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008 (as amended in 2019), the mandate applies to officers at Grade 7 and above, elected officials, presidential appointees, and personnel with fiduciary or financial responsibilities. The exercise aims to ensure transparency and monitor unexplained wealth within the public service.

The ACC cautioned that failing to submit or providing fraudulent information constitutes a legal breach. Under Section 122A(1), violations may result in the withholding of salaries and further disciplinary action.

The asset declaration regime remains a cornerstone of Sierra Leone’s anti-corruption framework, designed to maintain public confidence through rigorous financial disclosure. The ACC maintains that this is a critical statutory obligation supporting ethical leadership.

As the July 20 deadline approaches, the Commission has shifted its focus from public awareness to active enforcement, signaling that immediate administrative action will be taken against those who fail to comply.
