Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) is actively advancing preparations for the 2026 Population and Housing Census (PHC), a pivotal initiative for national development.
A recent Users and Producers Data Consultation Workshop concluded, gathering a wide range of stakeholders to define the census's scope and align it with Sierra Leonean priorities.
Although the government has already allocated substantial funding, there remains a significant shortfall of $15.4 million. The Statistician General, Andrew Bob Johnny, disclosed that essential components such as Main Enumeration and Data Analysis currently lack funding, alongside deficiencies in Cartography, Publicity, and Logistics.
Nevertheless, the census procurement plan is ambitious, with intentions to acquire 98 ESRI licenses, updated satellite imagery, 40 vehicles, 38 motorbikes, 200 laptops, and 20 Starlink internet devices. The IT equipment component is already fully funded by the government.
This comprehensive strategy highlights the nation's dedication to conducting a thorough and impactful census.
