Air Sierra Leone Targets Return to Skies With London Routes Set for Resumption

Air Sierra Leone has officially announced plans to return to active service, with operations on its London–Freetown and London–Banjul routes expected to resume between late May and early June 2026.

The national carrier made the announcement on 5 May, following a period in which its operations were grounded after a previous partner unexpectedly ceased operations, disrupting scheduled services.

According to the airline, it is currently in “advanced talks” with three aircraft suppliers as part of efforts to secure a stable, long-term partnership aimed at preventing future interruptions to its services.

Air Sierra Leone says the restart process is firmly on track, but emphasized that the resumption of flights will depend on two key requirements: compliance with international aviation safety standards and final regulatory approvals from relevant aviation authorities.

The airline noted that it is working to meet all rigorous operational and safety requirements before returning to the skies, while also completing the necessary regulatory processes to secure clearance for flight operations.

If ongoing negotiations and safety checks are successfully completed, the airline is expected to resume flights within the coming weeks, restoring a key air link between the United Kingdom and West Africa.

The planned return is seen as significant for passengers traveling between the UK, Sierra Leone, and the wider region, particularly as the routes have been absent from regular schedules during the suspension period.

Air Sierra Leone’s comeback marks an important step toward re-establishing direct connectivity and strengthening regional and international travel links.
