Ambassador Yongawo Welcomes Russian Tourists Amid Growing Diplomatic Ties

His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo warmly received a group of 19 Russian tourists in Freetown on Tuesday. The visitors are in Sierra Leone as part of a tour of selected tourist destinations across the country.

The visit is part of Ambassador Yongawo’s ongoing diplomatic and people-to-people engagement with the Russian Federation, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting Sierra Leone as an attractive tourism destination.

This development follows a humanitarian medical outreach in December 2025, during which a 13-member Russian delegation, including 10 medical experts, visited Sierra Leone. Supported by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, the team provided free medical services to citizens nationwide and was warmly received by local communities.

With the anticipated reopening of the Russian Federation Embassy in Freetown, prospects are high for increased investment, tourism, and collaboration across multiple sectors, further deepening the ties between the two countries.
