Babadi Kamara Charges Sierra Stars to Fight for Glory in Senega

Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Babadi Kamara has charged the National Under-17 team, the Sierra Stars, to show courage, discipline, unity and determination as they prepare for the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations WAFU-A Zone Qualifiers in Senegal.

Kamara gave the charge during an engagement with the players and technical staff at the SLFA Academy on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, urging the young players to believe in themselves, remain focused and represent Sierra Leone with pride.

“As Shooting Stars, you are fit to play among the best in the tournament. Be motivated, believe in yourselves and go out there to bring the trophy home,” Kamara told the team.

He also urged the technical team to ensure that selection is based on merit, professionalism and each player’s ability to contribute to the team’s success.

SLFA Executive Committee Member Mohamed Sorie Jalloh, who will lead the delegation to Senegal, assured Kamara that the team would receive the necessary support throughout the competition.

“We are going to Senegal with one mission - to make our country proud,” Jalloh said.

Head Coach Patrick Bangura described Kamara’s visit as a major morale boost, saying the President’s encouragement would inspire the players to compete strongly against every opponent.

“This inspiration from the President is huge for the boys. It will push us not just to compete, but to contend against any opponent,” Bangura said.

The WAFU-A U-17 qualifiers will be held in Senegal from September 7 to 21, 2026. Sierra Leone will face The Gambia on September 7, hosts Senegal on September 10, and Mauritania on September 13.

The Sierra Leone delegation is expected to depart for Dakar on Wednesday as the Shooting Stars target a strong campaign and progression to the next stage of the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
