Bail Granted for Kao Denero Amidst Incitement Charges; Absence Sparks Controversy

Sierra Leonean artist Amara Dennis Turay, widely known as Kao Denero, was granted bail in the sum of Le50,000 on Monday, August 11th, 2025, despite his absence from court and prior claims of medical necessity for travel. 

The artist, who had previously denied the existence of the case against him, is facing charges of incitement and intimidation.

Magistrate Adama Kandeh at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 4 issued a bench warrant for Kao Denero due to his medical leave being overdue. 

The court noted that the defense had failed to formally submit a medical report detailing the necessity of his extended absence.

Kao Denero stands accused of unlawfully inciting individuals to assault complainant Fredrick Dapaye Peters on February 22nd, 2025, at Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel. 

He also faces a second count alleging disorderly behavior at the same time and location. The artist pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Defense counsel A. Kamara argued for bail, highlighting Kao Denero's significant role as an ambassador for the Sierra Leonean entertainment industry and his positive influence on young talents. 

The prosecution, M. Sesay, opposed bail, emphasizing that the decision rested with the court.

Ultimately, Magistrate Kandeh granted bail with two sureties residing within her jurisdiction, who must present valid National Identity Cards confirming their Freetown address. 

The bail conditions are pending approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar. 

The case has been adjourned to August 18th, 2025, for further proceedings.
