Civil Servant Remanded in Larceny Case Following Police Testimony

A 30-year-old civil servant remains in custody following a court appearance on Thursday, July 9, 2026, where police presented evidence in a larceny case involving the alleged theft of $5,210.

Peter Brima appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 to face charges of larceny in a dwelling house. The prosecution's case was bolstered by the testimony of Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, an investigator with the Criminal Investigation Department’s Breaking and Larceny Unit.

According to police testimony, the investigation began on March 10, 2026, after the complainant, Lovetta Kamara, reported the theft. Officer Conteh testified that upon visiting the crime scene the following day, investigators noted no signs of forced entry.

During the proceedings, the court heard that Mr. Brima provided a caution statement to police between March 11 and March 14. In that statement, translated from Krio to English, the defendant reportedly admitted to the facts of the incident and authorized the statement with his thumbprint.

The police further detailed the recovery of evidence linked to the case. Authorities successfully retrieved Le8,400—a portion of the stolen funds—from a UBA bank account. Additionally, police seized a grey Infinix mobile phone, a black Sambi manual phone, and a UBA ATM card, all of which were entered as exhibits.

Following the collection of evidence and legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Brima was formally charged on March 27, 2026.

Magistrate Fornah denied the defendant's bail application, citing the serious nature of the offense. The case has been adjourned until July 16, 2026, for further proceedings.
