Court Issues Bench Warrant for Businessman in Nearly $3 Million USD Fraud Case

Magistrate Sahr Kekura has approved an application for a bench warrant against businessman Tarine Fairman, age 59, for alleged financial misconduct.

The bench warrant was issued due to Fairman's failure to appear in court to respond to the allegations against him.

Fairman was scheduled to appear before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on three counts of conspiracy to defraud, forgery, and fraudulent conversion.

Specifically, between February 2021 and December 2023 in Freetown, Western Area, Fairman allegedly conspired with unknown individuals to commit the felony of forgery.

On the same date and location, the accused is alleged to have forged various documents. Specifically, a DDF F-TCH Africa Sierra Leone Limited company status report dated 24th January 2020, increasing his percentage share to fifty percent (50%) instead of the five percent (5%) indicated in the Memorandum and Articles of DDE D-TECH Africa Sierra Leone Limited.

Additionally, on the same date and location, the accused allegedly fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit certain property, namely, the total sum of two million nine hundred and twenty-four thousand seven hundred and thirty thousand United States dollars ($2,924,730), which was intended for mining operations in Kono District.

In light of the accused's absence, the prosecutor, Chief Superintendent of Police Juan M.S Bull Esq., and Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim S. Mansaray, along with the Associate Counsel Jessie M. Jengo, applied for a bench warrant against the absent accused.

Magistrate Kekura granted the application and adjourned the matter until the 23rd of July 2024 for further hearing.
