Cricket SL Sets Sights on 30,000 Youths in 2026

Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) has officially launched its ambitious 2026 Cricket 4 Good programme, aiming to introduce 30,000 new participants to the sport across 50 communities in the Western Area.

Designed to broaden cricket's reach at the grassroots level, the initiative focuses on engaging local youth, fostering talent, and establishing clear pathways for promising players to advance through the national development system.

Key activities will feature comprehensive introductory training sessions alongside an inter-community cricket championship. This tournament will serve as a primary platform for young athletes to display their skills to talent scouts and national coaches.

To facilitate the rollout, CSL is deploying 80 dedicated development officers organized into 10 specialized operational groups across the target regions.

Under the target framework, each participating community is expected to recruit 300 newcomers, culminating in the 30,000 total beneficiary goal.

This project marks a substantial fivefold increase over last year's campaign, which successfully reached 6,000 participants across 10 communities.

The expansion builds directly on the success of CSL's Women's Cricket Programme, which significantly boosted general engagement and interest in the sport nationwide.

By scaling up its operations, CSL aims to solidify the foundation of its youth development network while opening competitive avenues for aspiring athletes.

The rapid growth underscores the rising momentum of cricket in Sierra Leone, offering expanded athletic opportunities for the country's youth.
