Cyclist Jalloh and Koroma Outperforms Ghana and UK In Commonwealth Games

Sierra Leone has etched its name into the annals of sporting history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, marking the nation’s first-ever appearance in track cycling. 

The debut was highlighted by a standout performance from Ibrahim S. Jalloh, who established himself as a continental leader in the discipline.

Competing in the Men’s 4000m Individual Pursuit, Jalloh delivered a commanding performance in Heat One. Clocking a time of 5:10.00, he secured a victory over Ghana’s Mohamed F. S. and, in doing so, recorded the fastest time by any African rider in the event during these Games.

The Sierra Leonean contingent also saw a determined effort from Mustapha Koroma. Despite falling short against a formidable British opponent, Koroma registered a respectable time of 5:41.00, further solidifying the country’s presence on the international track.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) issued a statement praising the duo for their tenacity and skill. The NSA characterized the debut as a pivotal moment for Sierra Leonean athletics, suggesting that this experience serves as a vital foundation for the growth of cycling within the country and its future competitiveness on the global stage.

In a joint message of congratulations, the Ministry of Sports, the National Sports Authority, and the Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone lauded Jalloh and Koroma. They commended the athletes for their role in elevating the national profile and "proudly flying the Green, White, and Blue" in a new sporting frontier.

The two cyclists are now preparing to join forces for the Men’s Team Pursuit. This upcoming race will conclude Sierra Leone’s historic track cycling campaign in Glasgow, leaving a lasting legacy for the sport back home.
