Following the cross-examination of prosecution witness Sandra Beury, significant points emerged raising questions about the defendant’s involvement in the alleged theft.
Beury, who had been on maternity leave at the time, testified that she did not see the defendant with any of the stolen items. She confirmed that the company’s CCTV footage is in police custody but noted that the camera in the manager’s office, where the theft occurred, was switched off. The defendant, who controlled the keys to the office and the cupboard containing the missing items, had the ability to disable the cameras.
While Beury did not witness the defendant handling the stolen property, her testimony establishes a strong link between his control of the premises and the theft.
The defense renewed a bail application, but Magistrate Fornah denied it, citing the seriousness of the offence. The defendant has been remanded to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown, with the case adjourned to November 10, 2025.
