The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) is actively preparing for the 2028 general elections, drawing crucial lessons from the 2023 polls and integrating recommendations from the Tripartite Committee.
Albert Massaquoi Esq., Director of External Relations for the ECSL, revealed the commission's proactive stance on AYV on Sunday, emphasizing their commitment to conducting all public elections with enhanced efficiency and transparency.
Massaquoi assured the nation that significant progress is being made behind the scenes, promising visible reforms in the near future. He highlighted the commission's dedication to implementing Recommendation One, which focuses on formulating comprehensive consultation policies.
The ECSL has already made substantial headway, with a draft policy in place and a national consultant providing assistance.
In a move to foster broader engagement, the ECSL plans to establish national engagement forums where partners and stakeholders will actively participate in shaping these consultation policies.
Massaquoi indicated that the finalized stakeholder policy is expected to be released by September. This policy will serve as a crucial framework, inviting input from political parties, civil society organizations, and all entities involved in ensuring credible and inclusive elections.
The ECSL's continued collaborative efforts address past electoral grievances from 2023 and strengthen preparedness for the 2028 election cycle.
