Education Officials Charged in Nle2.6 Millions Fraud

Three officials from the Free Education Secretariat are facing trial in Freetown following allegations of fraud involving hundreds of thousands of educational books valued at millions of Leones.
The defendants—Sahr Johnny, Tiva Rogers, and Mohamed I. Kallon—appeared before Pademba Road Court No. 6 charged with conspiracy to defraud and causing goods to be delivered by false pretenses.
According to court records, the case centers on 714,500 books worth NLe 2,666,000. Prosecutors allege that between November 1, 2024, and January 31, 2025, the accused conspired to defraud supplier Eric James Lakoh.
The prosecution further alleges that Johnny and Rogers falsely induced Lakoh to deliver the shipment to Kallon at the Secretariat premises located on Grafton Road, Freetown, under the promise of payment that was never fulfilled.
During the recent court session, no pleas were entered as the matter remains in the preliminary committal-proceedings stage to determine if sufficient evidence exists to proceed to trial.
Magistrate Medissa Massaquio confirmed that all three defendants remain on their previously granted bail. The case has been adjourned to November 9, 2026, for further hearings.
