Felonious Offenses: Three Defendants Committed To High Court

On December 17, 2025, Magistrate Wilbri Hamida M. John of Magistrate Court No.2 in Kenema committed three defendants—Moses Ngegbai, Jusu Gbessay, and Joseph Richard—to stand trial at the High Court of Sierra Leone.

According to Prosecuting Officer Woman Police Sergeant 4654 Watta Bakarr, Moses Ngegbai is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, specifically house breaking and larceny, on November 19, 2025, at Dodo Town, Dodo Chiefdom, Kenema Judicial District. Jusu Gbessay is accused of malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Yayah Abu on the same date at Kambama Newsite, Lower Bambara Chiefdom.

The original charge included a separate sexual penetration case against a Foday Sesay, which appears to be a distinct matter. No pleas were taken, and the three defendants were remanded at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Kenema pending their High Court trial.

Magistrate John’s ruling followed a review of the evidence and testimony presented by the prosecution, leaving the court with no option but to commit the defendants for a higher court proceeding.

In a separate matter, Joseph Richard Musa, a bike rider, was arraigned for larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916. He pleaded guilty to stealing one black Itel manual mobile phone, valued at NLe 400.00, the property of Victoria Sorie, on December 14, 2025, at 3 Forbbie Street, Kenema. Musa was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment at the SLCC in Kenema.
