Madam Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, arrived in Kenema District to officially attend the Inaugural Ceremony of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) Women's Council Kenema District.
She was enthusiastically welcomed in Kenema District, where she presided over the launch of the SLPP District Women's Council Executive and the Kenema festival on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
Security arrangements across the township and at the program venue were robust and fully operational, overseen by the Regional Police Commander, Eastern Region, Mr. Francis Brima Meinday.
Security deployment was strategically managed, with the Local Unit Commander (LUC), Superintendent T. B. Sesay, and his team positioned at key points to ensure maximum safety and maintain order. The atmosphere remained calm and peaceful as residents and participants warmly received the First Lady and her delegation.
During her remarks, the First Lady highlighted significant government achievements, including progress in road development, the construction of town halls, the timely payment of government employee salaries, and substantial improvements in energy access, which has increased from 16% to 40% and 60% in certain provincial areas.
She stated that while her husband, President Bio, is known for being less vocal, she was present to champion his administration's accomplishments despite global challenges. She urged residents to secure President Bio's legacy by re-electing the next flagbearer from his party.
A donation of Le150,000 presented in Kenema was jointly made by the First Lady and Dr. Kandeh to the Kailahun Women's Council to help commence their activities.
