The Ministry of Health has officially launched the local production of essential infection prevention and control (IPC) supplies, marking a significant step towards strengthening the country’s healthcare system and improving access to critical medical resources.
The initiative is being implemented by the National Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Programme under the Ministry’s “300 Days of Activism for Triple Zero” campaign, a national drive focused on eliminating maternal deaths, preventing child mortality and reducing the number of zero-dose children across Sierra Leone.
The local production of key IPC materials is expected to improve the availability of essential supplies at health facilities, strengthen infection prevention measures and reduce avoidable healthcare-associated infections.
Health officials say the initiative will also contribute to safer childbirth and paediatric care by ensuring that health workers have more reliable access to essential infection prevention materials.
By strengthening domestic production, the Ministry aims to reduce dependence on external supply chains, improve the resilience of the health system and ensure more consistent access to life-saving supplies across the country.
The initiative is therefore expected to play an important role in supporting Sierra Leone’s broader efforts to improve the quality and safety of healthcare services, particularly for mothers and children.
