IGP William Fayia Sellu Honoured for Outstanding Public Service Leadership

Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu has been honoured by the Government of Sierra Leone for his outstanding leadership and contribution to national service within the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).

The recognition took place during an awards ceremony organised by the Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs in collaboration with the Public Service Reform Unit (PSRU) at the Miatta Conference Centre in Freetown, as part of activities marking World Public Service Day.

IGP Sellu, who joined the Sierra Leone Police in 1993, has served in several key positions over the years, including Chief Security Officer to the late former President Dr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, Director of Crime Services, and Local Unit Commander in multiple divisions.

He also previously led the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA), where he contributed to training and capacity building within the force.

Appointed Inspector General of Police in 2022, he has since overseen reform initiatives aimed at improving professionalism, discipline, and public trust in the Sierra Leone Police.

Government officials described his recognition as part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability and efficiency within the public sector, particularly in law enforcement institutions undergoing ongoing reforms.
