Inter-Religious Council Disowns Alleged Imam's Involvement in Viral Same-Sex Marriage Ceremony

The Inter-Religious Council of Sierra Leone (IRCSL) has disowned an Imam reportedly involved in a recent same-sex marriage ceremony that went viral online, stating that no recognized Imam of their membership was involved in such an act.

The IRCSL strongly condemned the marriage, emphasizing that such practices are not recognized or condoned in Sierra Leone, a nation founded on strong cultural, religious, and moral values.

According to the IRCSL, both Christianity and Islam, the dominant faiths in Sierra Leone, clearly uphold marriage as a sacred union between a man and a woman, making the incident a direct contradiction to the spiritual, moral, and cultural fabric of society.

The Council called on relevant authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action in accordance with Sierra Leonean law, where same-sex marriage is illegal.

The IRCSL also reminded the public that not every religious leader's act reflects the views of the IRCSL membership, and encouraged all religious leaders to remain faithful to the cardinal principles of the Council.

The IRCSL affirmed its commitment to working with government, civil society, and communities to preserve and protect the spiritual and moral integrity of the nation.
