Ishmael Kamara Wins Bronze at African Junior Weightlifting Championship

Sierra Leone weightlifter Ishmael Kamara has earned a bronze medal in the men’s 75kg category at the African Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships in Mostaganem, Algeria, adding another international accolade to his nation’s tally.
As the sole athlete representing Sierra Leone at the event, Kamara secured third place after achieving an impressive total lift of 215 kg.
His podium finish follows last year's historic performance by Francis Kondeh, who captured Sierra Leone's first-ever medals in the competition with bronze lifts in both the Youth and Junior 60kg categories in Accra, Ghana.
Sallieu Kamara, Coach and Technical Director, commended the young lifter's progress, noting that Kamara exceeded expectations after originally entering with a 210 kg target weight.
“It was a great performance by Ishmael Kamara who made an improvement with his weights; we entered a total of 210 kg but he pulled off 215 kg in the competition, which was a great display,”
Coach Kamara said. He also expressed gratitude toward Mohamed Ragga Bangura, President of the Sierra Leone Weightlifting Association, for facilitating the trip.
President Bangura praised Kamara's resilience following a narrow miss on the podium in the previous tournament, reaffirming the Association's commitment to bringing home more international laurels.
The ongoing championships in Mostaganem have gathered 340 weightlifters representing 29 nations across Africa and the Arab region.
