JM Mining CEO Decries Abrupt Security Contract Termination

The Chief Executive Officer of JM Mining Company, operating in the Kamboi Hills of Kenema District, has publicly addressed the sudden termination of the company’s security contract by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).

Speaking before journalists, members of the Parliamentary Committee on Mines, representatives from the Office of National Security (ONS), and other security agency officials on August 15, 2026, CEO Jerry expressed serious concerns over the abrupt decision.

According to the CEO, the existing agreement includes an explicit 60-day termination clause designed to guarantee uninterrupted security coverage for the mining campsite. However, the company received its notice of termination just three days prior, leaving 57 days remaining on the contractual notice period.

Jerry categorized the premature pullout as an inappropriate action and a clear breach of contract, warning that the sudden loss of security personnel leaves the facility, equipment, and property vulnerable to threats, vandalism, and destruction.

Following the public statement, community members and industry stakeholders have urged the Parliamentary Committee on Mines to step in and facilitate a swift resolution. Observers emphasize the urgency of resolving the security dispute to prevent operational halts at the Kamboi Hills site.

JM Mining remains a major employer and economic contributor in Kenema District.

Industry leaders warn that contractual instability between state security forces and private mining enterprises could send negative signals to investors and undermine overall stability in Sierra Leone's mining sector.
