Jordan Aki-Sawyerr Debuts in Commonwealth Games Triple Jump

British-Sierra Leonean athlete Jordan Aki-Sawyerr marked a significant milestone in his sporting career on Thursday, making a spirited international debut for Sierra Leone in the Men’s Triple Jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. 

Competing at Scotstoun Stadium, the young athlete demonstrated remarkable composure on one of the world’s most prestigious multi-sport stages.

Aki-Sawyerr, the son of Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, competed in Group A of the qualifying round. He registered a top mark of 15.12 meters, securing 13th place in his group. 

The performance was particularly notable for its consistency, falling just 0.01 meters shy of his personal best—an achievement that underscores his technical readiness and ability to perform under high-pressure conditions.

Reflecting on the event, Aki-Sawyerr expressed a deep sense of honor regarding his participation and committed to better results in the future. 

He emphasized that wearing the national colors and representing Sierra Leone on the global stage was an "unforgettable experience," signaling a bright future for the nation’s presence in international athletics.
