Kakua Hospice Provides Cash Support and Screenings To Sex Workers

Hundreds of commercial sex workers across Bo District have participated in a new humanitarian and public health initiative providing direct financial grants and comprehensive medical screenings. 

This engagement under the "face-to-face" initiative, funded by the Global Fund and World Vision, combines emergency economic support with proactive medical interventions to improve healthcare accessibility for vulnerable populations.

The program included on-site health check-ups with a focus on routine screenings for HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), and general wellness. 

To complement these services, qualified healthcare facilitators led interactive sensitization sessions on disease prevention, early symptom detection, and the importance of timely treatment. 

Simultaneously, cash grants were disbursed to help participants meet immediate livelihood needs and reduce the economic pressures that contribute to systemic vulnerability.

Alieu Mohamed Koroma, HIV Counselor and team lead of Kakua Hospice, highlighted the importance of the project's integrated approach. 

He explained that the combination of physical interaction, discussion, medical screening, and direct cash aid is central to the initiative's goal of preventing STIs and STDs, protecting and supporting sex workers in the region.
