Kenema Police Intensify Community Outreach to Combat Crime and Drug Abuse

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in Kenema have conducted a visibility beat patrol across several communities in Kenema City as part of efforts to strengthen security, promote public confidence, and raise awareness on crime prevention.

The patrol, which took place on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, was carried out by a team of police officers who departed the station at 10:00 hours and covered areas including Simbeck Section, Dama Road, Circular Road, Lumbembu, Sombo Street, Kandeh Street (Sheep Yard), and surrounding communities.

During the exercise at Sombo Street, officers engaged motorcycle mechanics and sensitised them on the harmful effects of drug abuse on individuals and society. The group was encouraged to report anyone involved in the sale or distribution of illicit drugs to the nearest police station.

At Kandeh Street (Sheep Yard), residents, especially youths, were advised against taking the law into their own hands during disputes. Police encouraged them to seek lawful intervention by reporting grievances for proper investigation and resolution.

The officers also engaged a group of youths at Circular Road after noticing them attempting to disperse upon seeing the patrol team. The youths were calmly addressed and educated on the dangers of drug abuse and other anti-social behaviours that could lead to conflict with the law.

The police described the patrol as peaceful and successful, noting that it achieved its objectives of increasing police visibility, improving community engagement, and strengthening public awareness on crime prevention.

The SLP continues to encourage residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing timely information to help maintain peace and security within communities.
