Kono University Gets Administrative Boost with Vehicle Donation from MTHE

Students, lecturers, and administrators at the Kono University of Science and Technology (KUST) are expected to benefit from improved administrative services following the donation of a new vehicle by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE), in a move aimed at strengthening the institution’s operational capacity.

The vehicle was officially handed over by the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, who stated that the donation is intended to support the university’s Secretariat and enhance the efficiency of administrative functions within the institution.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Dr. Wurie noted that the vehicle was made available through the support of a distinguished son of Kono, whose contribution, she said, complements government efforts to expand and strengthen higher education institutions across Sierra Leone.

“The Government remains committed to ensuring that our universities have the necessary resources to operate effectively and deliver quality education to students,” she said.

The donation comes at a time when KUST continues to expand its academic and administrative structures in response to growing demand for higher education in the eastern region of Sierra Leone.

Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the university, Vice Chancellor Prof. Tamba Jamiru described the intervention as timely and significant. He expressed appreciation to the Ministry and the donor, noting that the vehicle would improve the institution’s day-to-day operations and service delivery.

“This support will greatly assist the Secretariat in carrying out its responsibilities and contribute to the smooth administration of the university,” Prof. Jamiru said.

Established to promote access to science, technology, and innovation-focused education, KUST has in recent years been working to strengthen its infrastructure and institutional capacity to meet rising academic demands.

Education stakeholders have consistently emphasized the need for adequate logistical and operational support to improve governance, academic management, and student services in tertiary institutions.

The latest donation is expected to ease transportation challenges within the university and support ongoing efforts to build a more efficient and responsive higher education system.

For students and staff, the vehicle represents not only a logistical improvement but also a practical investment in strengthening the administration of an institution that continues to play a growing role in expanding educational opportunities in Kono District and beyond.
