The Sierra Leone National Football Team, commonly known as the Leone Stars, experienced a disappointing outcome in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Held at the SKD Stadium in Liberia, the Leone Stars were held to a goalless draw against the Chadian National Football Team.
Despite dominating possession and creating several promising goalscoring opportunities, the Leone Stars were unable to capitalize on their chances, resulting in a missed opportunity to secure an early advantage in the qualifying group.
Hindolo Mustapha, a player for Crystal Palace Football Club, made his official debut for Sierra Leone in this match. Introduced as a substitute under the guidance of Head Coach Amidu Karim, Mustapha's presence added an attacking dimension to the team's play, but they were ultimately unable to breach the resilient Chadian defense.
The Leone Stars will now shift their focus to their upcoming qualifier against the Zambian National Football Team, scheduled to take place on September 10th at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia.
