Local footballer Abdul Sesay, 29, was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday after being found guilty of stealing a Samsung Galaxy A-15 valued at Le 12,000 during court proceedings.
Sesay appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown, where the sentence was handed down.
The court heard that on September 16, 2025, Sesay allegedly snatched a silver Samsung Galaxy A-15 from court clerk Bakisa Massaquoi during ongoing court proceedings. He was caught attempting to sell the stolen phone disguised as a boot to Police Corporal Cecilia Thomas, who was conducting routine checks.
CCTV footage and circulated photographs led to his swift arrest. During arraignment, Sesay pleaded guilty to larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
Acknowledging Sesay’s prior offenses and the severity of the crime, Magistrate Jah sentenced him to five years at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Mabel M. Tarawalie, emphasized the need to uphold justice and protect public property. The case serves as a reminder that fame does not exempt anyone from accountability.
