A 23-year-old man accused of breaking into a residence in Freetown and stealing property valued at over Le 12,000 has been remanded in custody following his first court appearance.
The accused, Lamin Mansaray, an unemployed youth, made his initial appearance on Monday, June 1, 2026, before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown. He faces charges of housebreaking and larceny.
According to court documents, Mansaray is charged under Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916. It is alleged that on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at No. 93 Wilkinson Road in Freetown, he broke into the dwelling house of Adama Nourah Ngobeh with intent to steal.
He is further alleged to have stolen a Samsung air conditioner valued at Le 12,000, three bags of charcoal valued at Le 300, and a rubber chair valued at Le 250, bringing the total value of the stolen items to Le 12,550.
When the charges were read in court, the defendant did not enter a plea, as the matter is still at a committal stage.
Sergeant Wilson, prosecuting, informed the court that the charge sheet had been served on the defendant and noted that the complainant was currently outside the jurisdiction.
Mansaray, who is not legally represented, told the court that he wished to cross-examine the complainant.
In response, Magistrate Fornah ordered that a subpoena be issued for the absent prosecution witness and subsequently remanded the defendant to the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to June 8, 2026, for further hearing.
