37-year-old man, Abu Baker Conteh, has been remanded in custody after appearing before Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 in Freetown on charges of robbery with aggravation.
Conteh made his first appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah on Monday, 18 May 2026, in connection with an alleged robbery incident that reportedly occurred on 7 May 2026 at Bismarck Johnson Street in Freetown.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly used a pair of scissors to rob the complainant, Miatta Famballeh, of several personal properties valued at Le6,960.
The charge was brought pursuant to Section 23(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916, as amended by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act No. 2 of 2022.
Prosecutors told the court that the items allegedly stolen included one cross bag, body spray, cash, a head tie, lip shine, Yale locks, and one Tecno mobile phone.
When the charge was read and explained in court, no plea was taken from the accused, as the matter is currently before the court for a preliminary investigation to determine whether sufficient evidence exists for the case to proceed to the High Court.
The prosecution further informed the court that the case file had been served on the accused, while the defence indicated its intention to cross-examine all prosecution witnesses during subsequent proceedings.
Magistrate Fornah ordered that subpoenas be issued for prosecution witnesses to appear at the next hearing.
The accused was remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown, and the matter was adjourned to 25 May 2026 for further proceedings.
