Man Sentenced to Over Three Years for High-Value Theft Near FBC

In a swift delivery of justice, Yusufu Jah has been handed a 40-month prison sentence after admitting to a high-value larceny spree in Freetown. Magistrate Mary Julia Gbloh delivered the heavy sentence following Jah's guilty plea to charges under Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.

The court heard that on Saturday, April 11, 2026, Jah targeted a residence at Kamanda Farm, situated just behind Fourah Bay College, stealing a significant haul of electronics, cash, and personal belongings from victim Alhassan Mansaray.

The stolen items—valued at a staggering Le18,050—included a black ACC laptop computer, a Tecno Spark 8, and a premium black Samsung S23 smartphone. Alongside the high-tech gear, Jah made off with a large orange Wi-Fi device, a power bank, two pairs of sneakers, a bedsheet, and a brown bag carrying Le2,000 in cash, a student ID, and a voter registration card.

Faced with the evidence presented by the prosecution, Jah offered no defense and pleaded guilty immediately upon hearing the charges read.

Before handing down the sentence, Magistrate Gbloh took time to address the severity of the act, characterizing Jah’s conduct as particularly egregious. She noted that the burglary demonstrated calculated intent and a blatant, impatient disregard for the law and the victim's rights, rather than an act of desperation driven by financial hardship.

Emphasizing the necessity of a strong deterrent to preserve public order and uphold the rule of law, Magistrate Gbloh ordered Jah to serve 40 months behind bars, sending a firm message against opportunistic theft in the community.
