Marathon Runner Sheku Marathon Faces Career-Threatening Injury

Sheku Marathon, a young and dynamic marathon runner who has proudly represented Sierra Leone on both local and international stages for years, is currently battling a severe injury that threatens to derail his promising career.

Earlier this year, Marathon secured a coveted three-year contract with a marathon training camp in Senegal. Before embarking on this new chapter, he traveled to Daru, Kailahun District, in early February to share the good news with his parents and seek their blessings.

While with his family, Marathon was involved in an unfortunate accident with an "okada" (motorcycle taxi), resulting in minor cuts to his knee. Initially dismissing the injury as insignificant for an athlete of his caliber, he did not seek immediate medical attention.

However, the situation took a drastic turn when Marathon woke one day unable to stand, his knee swollen and covered in blisters. The severity of his condition led him to Connaught Hospital in Freetown, but his health continued to deteriorate.

The talented runner is now back home, appealing to well-meaning Sierra Leoneans and particularly those from Jawie chiefdom, Kailahun District, to come to his aid as he grapples with the debilitating injury and its profound impact on his life and future.
