Ministry of Education Vehicle Theft Case Lands Two Drivers in Jail

Two drivers, Alie Kamara and Abubakarr Koroma, have been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after appearing in court on charges relating to the alleged theft of vehicles belonging to the Ministry of Education.
The defendants appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1, where they faced two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and larceny, contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences occurred on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Ministry of Education premises in New England Ville, Western Area, Freetown.
The two defendants are accused of conspiring with unknown persons to steal a white JAC vehicle with registration number AWV 063.
They are also accused of stealing a white JAC J6 4x4 pick-up valued at Le636,000, which was reportedly in the custody of Alie Kamara at the time of the alleged theft.
The charges were read and explained to the defendants, who both pleaded not guilty.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, representing the prosecution, informed the court that copies of the case files and inquiry documents had been served on the defendants, who acknowledged receipt.
Magistrate Jah denied bail and ordered both defendants to be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility.
The matter was adjourned to August 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
