Motema Division Police Intensify Anti-Drug Operations in Kono District

The Operations Team of Motema Division on Friday, 1st May 2026, conducted a major anti-drug operation targeting a suspected drug cartel operating at the “One Bone” mining site in Kumao Town, Kono District.

The operation was led by the Operations Officer, Inspector Abubakarr Kamara, and formed part of ongoing efforts to discourage the consumption, sale, and distribution of narcotic substances within the division.

Security sources indicated that the team also extended the exercise to Old Borom Road in Koakoyima Town, where officers engaged residents and sensitized them on the importance of community involvement in the fight against drug-related activities. Members of the public were encouraged to provide credible and timely information to support law enforcement efforts.

Speaking during a brief interview, Inspector Kamara reaffirmed the police’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown on drug networks, stressing that the campaign would continue until the menace is significantly reduced or fully eradicated within the affected communities.

He emphasized that drug abuse and trafficking remain a serious threat to public safety and youth development, adding that sustained operations would be maintained across identified hotspots.

The operation received logistical and tactical support from the Operations Support Department, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) James Demmah, whose team provided response equipment and coordination that contributed to the success of the exercise.
