The Motema Police Division on Wednesday, 6th May 2026, provided comprehensive security coverage for the official declaration of candidates for the town and section chieftaincy elections in Kangama Town.
The operation was carried out in line with the police mandate to maintain public order and safety during civic and electoral processes. It was conducted under the direct supervision of DSP James Demmah, Officer Commanding the Operations Support Department (OSD), alongside Inspector Abubakarr Kamara, Operations Officer, who coordinated the tactical deployment of personnel.
The security team operated under the strategic leadership of the Local Unit Commander (LUC), CSP Alimamy G. Sesay, who recently assumed office and has prioritized community engagement and confidence-building patrols aimed at ensuring a safe environment for civil activities.
Kangama Town serves as the headquarters of Gorama Kono Chiefdom. Security preparedness for the event was strengthened by recent divisional operations, including ongoing confidence patrols across surrounding communities.
Four candidates contested for the Kangama section chieftaincy, while three candidates were declared for the Kangama town chieftaincy. However, only one candidate secured the box for the town chieftaincy, while three candidates qualified for the section chieftaincy process.
According to the electoral timetable, the Kangama Town Chieftaincy election is scheduled for Thursday, 7th May 2026, while the Kangama Section Chieftaincy election will be conducted on Friday, 8th May 2026.
Under the coordination of DSP Demmah and Inspector Kamara, security personnel successfully secured the declaration venue and surrounding areas. The process was conducted peacefully, with no major security breaches or civil disturbances reported.
Authorities say the peaceful conduct of the exercise reflects the effectiveness of the division’s proactive security strategy, as well as recent leadership efforts by CSP Sesay to strengthen trust and cooperation between the police and local communities within Kono District.
The electoral process is expected to continue with the scheduled chieftaincy elections over the coming days under continued security supervision.
