A mudslide at the Kumao community mining site has resulted in the death of four individuals and injuries to three others.


On Thursday, December 18, 2025, during an intensive patrol within the Motema Division, the Operations team received a report from Inspector Mohamed Joe Kanu, Officer Commanding, Kumao Police Post, concerning a tragic incident at the Boundary Gold Mining Site in Kumao Town, Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono District. The incident involved the collapse of a mud embankment on seven miners, tragically killing four and hospitalizing three.


The Local Unit Commander, CSP. Mohamed Turay, accompanied by the Support Officer, Supt. Solomon Koroma, and the Operations team, immediately visited the scene. A thorough search and rescue operation was ordered and conducted, resulting in the recovery of four deceased persons. Three survivors were rescued alive and promptly transported to Koidu Government Hospital for treatment. The four bodies were also taken to the same hospital for preservation and preliminary postmortem examination.



The deceased were identified as Abdul Bangura, Fatmata Bangura, Admansay Thullah, and Sampa Kargbo, all residents of Kumao town. The survivors were Abdul Koroma, Abass Fullah, and Hawa Fullah. The owner of the mining site was identified by the alias "Recent." The Criminal Investigations Department at the division has launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances and cause of death.
