Murder Case Update: Mother and Daughter Remanded in Freetown

Three individuals, including a mother-daughter pair, have been remanded in custody following serious murder allegations in Freetown. Sylvia Wlatee, 61, her 24-year-old daughter Esther Wlatee, and 41-year-old Milton Brown appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 to face charges related to the death of Hannah Williams.

The trio is charged with conspiracy to murder, contrary to the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861, and murder, under Section 1 of the same Act as amended by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act of 2021. Court records allege that on June 11, 2026, at #12 Settra Kroo in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused conspired with unknown individuals to commit the crime.

During the committal proceeding, no pleas were entered. Prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric Deen informed the court that case and inquiry files had been served to the defense counsel. Following a request for a short adjournment by Defense Counsel M. Sesay to review the files, Magistrate Jah refused bail, citing the severity of the charges.

The defendants will remain in the male and female correctional facilities until the next hearing, which has been scheduled for July 16, 2026.
