Six individuals, including a deaf and mute defendant, Samuel Turay, appeared before High Court No. 2 in Freetown on Wednesday, June 4, 2026, to face charges related to the murder of James Conteh.
The remaining defendants in the case are Hassan Kamara, Fatmata Turay, Braima Kamara, Brima Tarawalie, and Abubakar Kamara. The group has been arraigned on two counts: conspiracy to commit murder, in violation of Section 4 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861, and the murder of James Conteh, contrary to Section 1 of the same act.
According to the indictment, the alleged conspiracy and the subsequent killing of Conteh took place in Freetown on March 1, 2024.
During the proceedings, State Counsel Koroma requested an adjournment to facilitate the testimony of the prosecution's second witness. The court noted that the first witness, Chernor Kamara, has already provided testimony and undergone cross-examination by defense counsel J. Kofi.
Justice has ordered all six defendants remanded in custody, with the case adjourned until June 10, 2026, for further trial proceedings.
