President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has appointed Mr. Karmoh K. Conteh as the new Clerk of Parliament, effective immediately. Mr. Conteh succeeds Hon. Paran Tarawallie in this role.
Deputy Clerk Gilbert Bosco N’habay, who had been serving as Acting Clerk, will now return to his position as Deputy Clerk.
This leadership change comes after the successful election of former Clerk Paran Tarawallie, who has been elected as the national secretary of his political party.
Tarawallie had previously been suspended due to parliamentary concerns about potential bias, as his political ambitions conflicted with the requirement for an apolitical stance in his role.
Mr. Conteh brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having most recently served as Executive Officer to the President at State House.
He previously held the role of Director of Legislative Services within Parliament. With over twenty years in public service, including 16 years in parliamentary administration.
Mr. Conteh has worked in various departments such as Hansard, Committees, the Office of the Speaker, and PACO (DePAC).
He holds a BA in History and Political Science (FBC, 2002) and a Master’s in Public Administration (IPAM, 2008).
