NSA Seeks Over NLe200 Million Budget Increase to Boost Sports Development

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has formally requested NLe 350 million for the 2026 national budget, a substantial increase from its initial NLe 126 million ceiling.

This appeal to the Ministry of Finance is critical for bolstering the NSA's expanding portfolio of sports development initiatives across Sierra Leone, directly supporting the government's "Five Big Game Changers" agenda.

Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai underlined that sufficient funding is paramount for unlocking the potential of the nation's youth through sports and fostering job creation.

The allocated funds would be strategically used to promote disciplines that have historically received less support, such as cricket, basketball, and volleyball. Additionally, the funding would address critical infrastructure deficiencies and significantly expand grassroots outreach programs.

Despite facing limited allocations in the past, the NSA has demonstrated achievements, including the Sierra Leone U-17 girls' victory in the WAFU Tournament.

As the coordinating body for sports nationwide, the NSA emphasizes the need for strong financial backing to sustain and further expand these significant gains.
