The second group of 266 Sierra Leonean pilgrims returned home on Monday morning, marking another successful conclusion to this year’s Hajj pilgrimage. The delegation arrived at Freetown International Airport in Lungi at 7:11 a.m. via Ethiopian Airlines, successfully completing their religious obligations in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

Returning travelers praised the logistical coordination of the 1447H/2026 Hajj, citing the efforts of the Government of Sierra Leone, the diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia, and the Presidential Taskforce on Hajj.

"The Hajj was very successful," said pilgrim Haja Adama Baimba. "We received excellent hospitality, good accommodation, and consistent support throughout our stay."

Fellow traveler Alhaji Ansumana Turay echoed this assessment, noting that the arrangements remained efficient throughout the journey. For many, including Chief Whip of Parliament Hon. Alhaji Dixon Rogers, the experience was profound.

"Standing on the plains of Arafat was a transformative moment," Rogers stated. "It was a spiritual rebirth that encourages self-reflection and renewed devotion."

Alhaji Abdul Aziz Turay, Deputy Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, characterized the operation as a significant milestone, crediting the progress to systemic reforms under the administration of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.

"Pilgrims now experience a more organized and efficient process," he explained. "Challenges that previously hindered Hajj operations have been significantly mitigated through institutional support and enhanced coordination."

Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabba, Minister-Counsellor and Head of Chancery at the Sierra Leone Embassy, commended the embassy staff and the Presidential Taskforce for their collaborative efforts in ensuring the welfare of the pilgrims.

The arrival of this second batch brings the bulk of the contingent home. Officials confirmed that the final group of pilgrims is scheduled to depart Jeddah for Freetown on Tuesday, June 9, concluding the 2026 Hajj return operation. For the participants, the journey serves as the fulfillment of a vital religious obligation and the beginning of a renewed spiritual chapter.
