Police Testimony Presented in $35,000 Vehicle Theft Case

The court heard police testimony in the case against Alhaji Conteh, a 21-year-old individual facing charges of vehicle theft valued at thirty-five thousand United States dollars. The charge statement was tendered by the police.

The proceedings were conducted by Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown. Conteh faced two charges: conspiracy and larceny.

The prosecution alleged that Conteh conspired with unknown individuals to commit larceny. However, Conteh entered a not guilty plea.

Specifically, Conteh is accused of stealing a Toyota 4Runner Jeep with garage number plate 79802408, valued at thirty-five thousand United States dollars, equivalent to six hundred thousand new Leones. The property belonged to Aminata Dumbuya and was parked at Youyi Building in Freetown.

Testifying under oath, Police Inspector Thoronka, attached to the Central Police Station, recalled being on duty on June 18, 2024, when a case of larceny and a Toyota vehicle were assigned to him for further investigation.

Thoronka further testified that he took a snapshot of the white-colored vehicle. This photograph of the vehicle in question was submitted as evidence. Conteh also presented a caution and charge statement as evidence.

Following Conteh's testimony, the accused's lawyer, Ibrahim S. Y Kamara, made an attempt to secure his client's release on bail, but his efforts were unsuccessful.

Magistrate Bangura subsequently remanded Conteh into custody and adjourned the matter to July 26, 2024.
