Ports Authority FC Defeat Old Edwardians to Stay in Top-Five Race

Ports Authority FC secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Old Edwardians FC on Friday, June 12, to strengthen their push for a top-five finish, while denying the visitors an opportunity to climb into second place.

The “Waterfront Boys” started strongly, dictating the tempo from the outset with quick transitions and effective wing play that kept Old Edwardians pinned back in their own half during the early stages.

The visitors gradually settled into the game after the 15-minute mark and created several chances, with Daniel Karim missing two clear opportunities inside the box. However, Ports Authority goalkeeper Saio Conteh produced key saves on both occasions to keep the match goalless.

The first half ended without a breakthrough, as both sides struggled to convert their half-chances.

Ports Authority returned from the break with renewed intensity and greater attacking intent, while Old Edwardians began to lose control in midfield, leaving their defence under sustained pressure.

The deadlock was broken in the 50th minute when Papaye Gumba Mansaray was fouled inside the penalty area. Joseph Cleveland stepped up and calmly converted the resulting penalty to give Ports Authority a 1-0 lead.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 67th minute through a well-worked move. Ishmael Kargbo delivered a precise cross from the right flank, and Abdul Sesay met it with a first-time finish to make it 2-0.

Old Edwardians responded late in the 86th minute when Dauda Kamara pulled one back with a well-taken strike to reduce the deficit.

Despite late pressure from the visitors, Ports Authority held firm to secure all three points.

The result keeps Ports Authority in 5th place, level on points with Bai Bureh Warriors, while Old Edwardians missed the chance to move into second position in a tightly contested league race.
