Pujehun DMSP Holds Land Conflict Meeting
The Partners Initiative for Conflict Transformation (PICOT) concluded its monthly District Multi-Stakeholder Platform (DMSP) meeting today in Pujehun District. The initiative, supported by Welthungerhilfe through the Land for Life Project, aims to enhance local land governance and mediate ongoing land disputes.
Held at the PICOT office in Pujehun Town, the meeting convened key platform members to review action items from August. According to DMSP Chairman Sonny Leigh, primary discussions centered on monitoring and resolving land conflicts across various chiefdoms, alongside strategic planning for the platform's long-term sustainability as the Land for Life Phase 3 Project approaches its conclusion in October 2026.
Among the prominent land disputes reviewed were the sectional boundary disagreement between Bassalleh and Jomborhun in Malen Chiefdom, as well as the boundary conflicts involving Bumbehun Kpejeh and Saaguahun Perri. Stakeholders also evaluated emerging land controversies elsewhere in the district to establish peaceful resolutions.
Maxwell V. Kemokai, District Director for PICOT in Pujehun, emphasized that the platform focuses on strengthening collaborative efforts among local stakeholders to handle land disputes constructively and maintain regional peace.
Financial governance was also highlighted during the session. Participants addressed the allocation of NLe 6,000 in funding provided by Green Scenery via Director Fawundu of RACAP. Sylvernus Joseph Kpana Karim, District Facilitator for PICOT, stressed the importance of strict accountability and proper coordination in executing planned activities with the funds.
As the Land for Life project nears completion, DMSP members reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a minimum target of 10 successfully mediated land conflict cases in Pujehun District. Discussions also touched upon restructuring the DMSP to ensure continuous protection of land rights and conflict prevention across the district in the future.
