Rescuers Pull 23 to Safety After Boat Incident on Makona River
At least 23 people have been rescued following a boat incident on the Makona River between Yenga in Sierra Leone and Nongowa in Guinea, as rescue efforts continue and families search for missing relatives.
Tamba James, Programme Manager at Kissi Bendu Radio in Koindu, Kailahun District, reported that 15 people from Sierra Leone and eight from Guinea were brought to safety after the vessel encountered trouble.
While dozens have survived, relief remains mixed with anxiety for families awaiting news of loved ones who may still be unaccounted for.
Unconfirmed reports from Mr James suggest the vessel may have been carrying up to 65 passengers, though official authorities have not yet confirmed the total number aboard or how many remain missing.
