RSLAF 14th Infantry Battalion Marks Leadership Transition in Pujehun

The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) formally conducted a Change of Command ceremony on September 2, 2026, at the 14th Infantry Battalion at Maple Leaf Barracks in Pujehun District. The event marked a key operational transition, transferring command from historic outgoing commander Lieutenant Colonel Koria Alice Sesay to incoming commander Lieutenant Colonel Samura.
The military tradition brought together senior armed forces leadership, officers, local authorities, and community stakeholders. The ceremony highlighted both the unit’s ongoing mandate to maintain security across Sierra Leone's southern region and the core values of discipline, loyalty, and civilian cooperation expected of military personnel.
Addressing the assembly, outgoing Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Sesay emphasized the core responsibilities of leadership and urged personnel to maintain total commitment to their constitutional duties and national security.
Lt. Col. Sesay made RSLAF history upon her appointment in August 2025, when she became the first female combatant officer to command a fighting unit within the armed forces. Reflecting on her tenure, she expressed confidence in the battalion’s ongoing readiness and professionalism.
Incoming Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Samura expressed deep gratitude to the RSLAF leadership for his assignment and commended his predecessor for her trailblazing contributions to the unit. He affirmed his dedication to building upon the battalion’s strong foundation in serving the nation.
Local leaders and residents of Pujehun District widely commended Lt. Col. Sesay for her administrative leadership and infrastructure improvements at Maple Leaf Barracks.
District Officer Adama Bandajuma Sowa praised the outgoing commander for initiating key development projects, including the construction of a perimeter fence for the barracks, a new canteen, and a dedicated development center. Furthermore, Lt. Col. Sesay established the battalion’s first formal awards program to recognize devoted and long-serving personnel, boosting morale and welfare across the rank and file.
The transition was a seamless continuation of command for the 14th Infantry Battalion as it upholds peace, regional safety, and national stability in southern Sierra Leone.
